Artist Development
Development to me is evolution, clarity, confidence in your artistry. The way I define the meaning of an ‘artist’ is as a person who sees the world through a unique lens and express their perspective via one or many outlets. Some of those outlets might include; physical or digital art, design, music, sound, movement, performance, acting, textiles, comedy, writing, philosophy, speaking, or social and community work. I don’t think there is a ‘wrong’ artistic outlet, sometimes it’s just a feeling.
I say this because development can be for any form of creative person.
Testimonal
Narrative and Conceptual Integrity
My job as a curator, coach, and artist development support is to help you know yourself and your practice with certainty and confidence. Part of the work we would do together is interview and narrative-based; I ask questions for you to answer so that your landscape is opened up and the constellation of the conceptual work is told thoroughly. These stories are uniquely yours, and my job is never to rewrite your experience. However, having an outside perspective and observer sometimes helps draw new links and connections you may have not been aware of.
Mentoring and Consulting
As a curator who has opened and run many galleries and art festivals, I have been a project manager and producer for many initiatives. If you would like to work towards a project and need someone to guide and help problem solve, I can brainstorm with you and help flesh out your project so you’re prepared for what’s ahead.
Curating can take many forms. My way of explaining it is remembering the etymological definition of curating, ‘to care.’ I help to take care of you and your work, but also help you enliven the work, consider your audience, and help you select and focus the themes of your offering so that you can feel empowered to show it to the world.
